Zano Monthly Project Update #7 - April 2025
Welcome zAnons to the 7th Zano Project Update!
It’s been another steady month of progress across the Zano ecosystem. From a new exchange listing to continued technical growth, there’s plenty to catch up on. Plus, we’re introducing a new way to recognize standout zAnons with our first-ever NFT award. Let’s dive into the highlights!
Community Member Of The Month
This month, we're shining the spotlight on ZanoX.io, an initiative led by the zAnon Smugplug! ZanoX is a community-built swap platform that lets users easily buy or sell Zano—or even use it to purchase gift cards, helping make Zano more accessible and practical for everyday use (As always, we encourage everyone to do their own research when using third-party apps.) On top of that, ZanoX includes a handy AI bot trained on Zano’s documentation, making it a helpful resource for newcomers.
This month is extra special because it marks the first Community Member of the Month award to be available as a private NFT (Made using Obscura), which will be sent exclusively to all future award winners. We’re incredibly grateful for community members like Smugplug who take real action to expand the Zano ecosystem. Keep building!
Zano Fact #1: We just hit another all-time high in confirmed transactions with an impressive 15,509 txs counted on May 4th, 2025!
Technical Upgrades
April focused on reliability, core improvements, and important feature rollouts. Here’s everything we’ve accomplished:
Core & Node Enhancements
- Non-Pruning Mode for zanod:
Added a new mode that retains all transaction signatures and proofs, regardless of checkpoints. Previously used only in backbone nodes, this is now available to everyone needing full-chain history access.
- Asset Ownership Refactor:
The internal asset ownership system was rewritten for better cryptographic consistency and cleaner API behavior.
- Zlib Upgrade:
Upgraded to v1.3.1 (suggested by MrCyjaneK) and resolved all integration issues.
- Fixed a rare segfault in p2p::foreach_connection.
- Fixed bugs in deploy_asset, is_in_long_refresh, and state reset in blockchain shortener.
- Reduced cache size for m_db_blocks_index for improved memory performance.
- Improved binary-to-JSON serialization.
- Debug symbols now included in Unix release builds.
- Implemented a potential fix for a rare data race, improving multithreaded stability.
Wallet & API Improvements
- simplewallet Daemon Handling Fixed:
Corrected how --daemon-address, --daemon-host, and --daemon-port are handled.
- New API Methods:
Introduced json variant of sendrawtransaction for easier third-party integrations.
Multiple helpful wallet RPC methods for asset management were implemented and tested.
Protocol & Research
Hardfork 5 Aftermath:
HF5 continues to run smoothly post-activation in March, with a focus now on improving tooling and stability.
Alias Handling Enhancement:
On testnet, we tested allowing multiple aliases per address. This is still experimental and under evaluation for optimal handling.
Zano Pure PoS Research:
Began exploring Pure Proof-of-Stake options for future protocol evolution.
Wrap Re-Implementation:
Ongoing complete refactoring of the Wrap bridge, aimed at simplifying code and improving reliability.
Testing & Infrastructure
Continued expansion of core test coverage, with additional attention on improving test infrastructure—making tests more maintainable and robust.
Mobile Wallet
Browser-Supported Mobile App Released!
This long-anticipated release allows users to connect directly to apps in the Zano ecosystem from within the wallet.
Major refactoring is still ongoing, with full rollout expected in May.
Frontend & Developer Tools
Zano Trade API Documentation Released:
Devs can now explore and build on top of the Zano Trade system using the published API docs:
