Zano Monthly Project Update #6 - March 2025

Welcome zAnons to the 6th Zano Project Update!
We’re thrilled to bring you the latest from the Zano ecosystem as we wrap up an action-packed March with the spotlight shining on the successful rollout of our fifth hard fork. Let's unpack what this upgrade means for Zano and share all the other exciting developments from the past month!
Zano’s Fifth Hard Fork Successfully Passed
On March 18th, the 5th hard fork officially went live!🎉
What is new with this hard fork?
- The fork enables Ethereum-style (EVM) signatures (simplifies integration to existing threshold signatures solutions).
- This is important for integrating bridging systems, like Confidential Layer, which widely use EVM-family toolkits.
Technical improvements
- Fixes issues encountered in previous hard forks, such as invalid transactions and stuck transactions.
- Improves network transition by preventing old-format transactions from causing disruptions
Overall, this hard fork is essential for the Confidential Layer's bridge and smart contract interactions, and it will also make future network upgrades more stable!
Community Member Of The Month
This month, we’re thrilled to spotlight Zanoshi Zanomoto as our Community Member of the Month! Zanoshi has gone above and beyond, creating zanomap.com—a brilliant website tracking Zano adoption worldwide—along with zanonews.com and zanolinks.com, where he’s compiled an impressive array of tools, exchanges, and community projects built on Zano. (Note: While we’re excited about these resources, we haven’t fully reviewed all listed projects and can’t endorse their reliability just yet—explore at your own discretion!) We’re genuinely inspired by Zanoshi’s drive to jump in and create something meaningful with the tools at hand. It’s a great example of the creativity thriving in our community. Thank you, Zanoshi, for your awesome work!

Zano Fact #1: Did you know that more developers are working on Zano than just our core development team? This means we have more eyes reviewing the project, helping to catch unnecessary mistakes, and ensuring a more refined development process!
Ecosystem Growth
- Zano has launched its official community on X, which has grown to over 250 members in one month’s time already! Connect with other zAnons, stay updated with the latest news, and collaborate within the Zano ecosystem. The best part is that you have a chance to win $100 in ZANO on a weekly basis!
- Immunefi has concluded its invite-only bug bounty program for Zano, auditing the Zano codebase. We can proudly say that no critical bugs were found! Soon, we’ll release a public bounty program to make our blockchain even more resilient against potential attacks.
- Obscura, a private NFT platform building on Zano, has launched its website and posted an introduction video.
- Zano has been listed on AscendEX, a new centralized exchange that requires no KYC for withdrawals up to 0.75 BTC daily!

Technical Upgrades

March was a packed month, featuring a successful hardfork, infrastructure improvements, and new feature rollouts. Here's a summary of what we accomplished:
Hardfork 5: Successfully Completed
Hardfork 5 activated smoothly and is now fully live.
Post-fork efforts included:
- Consensus Bug Investigation: We encountered and resolved a tricky bug related to consensus. This required several days of deep investigation, resolution, and planning of a prevention process for future hardforks.
- Implemented a workaround for rare cases where old nodes became stuck on an altchain after the fork.
- Fixed an issue in pop_asset_info() affecting asset deregistration during chain switching after HF5.
Core Development and Enhancements
- Fixed a rare wallet issue where very small amounts of an asset couldn’t be transferred under specific edge conditions.
- Fixed a bug in wallet2::transfer_asset_ownership() to ensure old ownership fields are properly cleared when changing owner types.
- Improved the marketplace API, adding checks for zero-fee submissions and malformed JSON.
- Predownload files updated to height 3083770.
- Released multiple hotfix builds (including v2.1.0.382+) following HF5 for ongoing improvements and fixes.
Development Tools & Build Infrastructure
- Boost 1.75 and CMake 3.26 are now the minimum supported versions, reducing compatibility issues and simplifying builds for external developers.
- Introduced WARP-mode, a high-performance mode for daemon-based servers under high load.
- Continued handling of reports through the Immunefi bug bounty program.
Testing & QA
- Continued enhancements to core test coverage.
- Focused on improving the test infrastructure, making tests easier to write and harder to break.
- Added unit-tested wallet RPC APIs for asset management (e.g., new methods to manage and inspect assets programmatically).
Mobile Development
- Resolved SSL-related issues and improved JSON sanitization in the mobile wallet.
- Continued work on browser support and connection in wallet
- Pushed builds through cloud-based deployment pipelines for smoother release handling.
Frontend & Extension
Released Zano Companion Extension v1.1.4, adding support for:
- Asset whitelisting methods
- Multiple destination send methods

The French-speaking community organized a major treasure hunt that brought together nearly 280 participants across all stages. It was a great event, driven by the enthusiasm of the players and the support of other ZANO communities (Africa, Turkey, Spain, Brazil ) and many more. A strong collective momentum worth highlighting! We sincerely want to thank all participants, despite the issues faced in the final stretch it was fun, and we received a lot of kind and thankful messages.
